How-To-Find-WordPress-Theme-Name-Of-A-Site

Recently I had published a tutorial on How To Detect the Software or Platform Used In A Site which also serves to detect the Analytic Plugin and Scripts used by the target site. We are now back with another tutorial on how to find the name of the WP theme and plugins used by a WordPress site.

This is actually to help you out find out the theme name so that you can add it to your WordPress site. As i mentioned, there are two methods of detecting the theme name, they are-

  1. Manual
  2. Third Party Services
  3. Google Chrome Theme Sniffer

I would recommend you to use the third party services, but you can even go with the manual method too. Lets get started.

Manual Method Of Detecting the Theme used in a WordPress site-

Step 1- Pick a target site and open it in any of the browser (Recommended- Google Chrome) except for Internet Explorer.

Step 2- Right click anywhere on the webpage and you will see the option “View Page Source” , click it.

Step 3- Now you are on the page displaying the sites source code (Not the whole site, but the homepage). Hit CTRL +F.

Step 4- Type “WP-Content/themes/” Without quotes in the find box.

Step 5- You’ll see that some words get highlighted, the phrase next to the “WP-Content/themes/” is the name of the theme being used in the site. For example if you see “WP-Content/themes/XYZ” , “XYZ” is the name of the theme.

PS- You can search for “WP-content/Plugins” to find the plugins used on a particular page. By this you can get to know about the share buttons, Like box and much more used in the site 😀 .

Using Third Party Services To Detect the Theme and Plugins Used in a WordPress site-

Step 1- Copy the URL of the target site and head to WordPress Theme Detector.
