SEO Case Study – Internal links VS External links

Internal links may not be that effective , but they are easy to build!

Building links from other sites require a lot of time and work, whereas in internal linking, you just link one post to another which makes it easy.

Though external links are much effective, internal links also help you to rank well. So How can internal linking help you rank well?

Here’s an example- http://geeksgrave.blogspot.com/ Yeah, that’s my old site., Take a look at the number of external links pointing to that domain-

There are only 20 links pointing to that domain, and 7 of them are No-Follow links. But still, it gets 500-600 Search traffic everyday, it had a PR2 which dropped to PR 1 in the recent Google updates and the last time I updated it was in 2013!

How did it manage to get so much of search traffic without a huge number of backlinks? You guessed it right, its actually due to the strong internal linking structure in it.

How to Build a Strong Internal Linking Structure To Increase Your Search Traffic?

Just linking from one post to another doesn’t help in building a strong internal linking structure, You need to use the right strategy to build a proper structure that’ll help you to drive search traffic to your posts! Here are some steps that explain how to build a strong internal linking structure.

Step #1.Analyse Your Top Posts and Pages using Moz-

First of all find all the authoritative posts in your blog which rank well and get a lot of search traffic. Its really easy to do.

Go to – Open Site Explorer  and put in your domain.

Navigate to Top Pages and take a look at the Page authority of the posts in your site.

Step #2.Link the Authoritative Posts (With High PA)  To The Weaker Posts ( low traffic and PA)-

So, the next step is that, you link all those authoritative posts to the weak ones to increase the flow of link juice.

Conclusion-

Believe it or not, I even used to make money using this technique! I used to build a strong internal linking structure for my clients for a reasonable amount, now its your turn, Share this post with your friends and Go build a perfect internal linking structure!
